The Inner Chapters journal my own quest to improve in the craft of programming. Each chapter reflects on a specific practice or principle through the lens of my own experiences both as a professional and an enthusiast. The name refers to the Chinese classic of philosophy, the Chuang Tzu. Divided into two sections, the Inner Chapters make up the first part attributed to the philosopher Chuang Tzu himself. The commentaries on the first section, written by his students and others, are known as the Outer Chapters. I hope you will contribute to my Outer Chapters by sharing your own thoughts and experiences on growing as a programmer.

Nachdem Michael Jackson gestern das Zeitliche gesegnet hat werden uns die etablierten Radiosender wohl Wochen oder vielmehr Monate mit Titel wie „Billie Jean“. „Bad“ oder „Dirty Diana“ zumüllen. Solange man allerdings an einem Rechner mit Internetanschluss und Soundkarte sitzt kann man diesem Terror entkommen.
Mein augenblicklicher Zufluchtsort nennt xnation.fm. Hier die letzten fünf Lieder die gerade gespielt wurden:

Sehr schön ist auch die begleitende Webseite, die sich nicht auf bunte blinkende Bilder beschränkt, sondern eine Liveticker mit den zuletzt gespielten Liedern inklusive Links auf die Bio der Band und die Texte des aktuellen Liedes anbietet. Vorbildlich.

Tweetback has been updated to version 0.2 and includes the feature I definitely missed. Now you can define users whose tweets will be ignored. This is important if you are using Alex King’s Twitter Tools and publish your new blog entries on Twitter. Until now it always resulted in a Tweetback from myself to myself. This is history with the new version. Thank you Florian.

Nicht immer zeigen Webseiten ihre Informationen so in Form und Inhalt wie man es gerne hätte. Zum Glück gibt es für Firefox das Add-On Greasemonkey, mit dem sich geladene Webseiten nach Belieben ändern lassen oder mit neuen Funktionen erweitern lassen.
Natürlich wäre es nicht sinnvoll und möglich alle gewünschten Skripte selber zu schreiben, deshalb gibt es unter userscripts.org eine mehr als reichhaltige Sammlung (mehr als 24000).
Um den Zugriff auf mögliche Skripte zu vereinfachen gibt es jetzt ein Firefox Ad-On namens Greasefire, mit dem sich mit einem einfachen Klick auf die rechte Maustaste überprüfen lässt, welche Skripte für die augenblicklich angezeigt Webseite bei userscripts.org bereit liegen:

Wählt man den obersten Menüpunkt aus, so öffnet sich ein Fenster in dem alle verfügbaren Skripte aufgelistet sind:

Die Skripte lassen sich nach Name, Bewertung, letztes Update und Downloads sortieren. Ein Klick auf ‚Install „Skriptname“‚ installiert das Skript und nach dem Neuladen der Seite beginnt das Skript mit der Arbeit. Schöne Sache…

J.A. Areces is back with the sequel of is novel „Interview for a wizard“ called The Secret Society of Seven Sorcerers. From the announcement:

Meanwhile, the remaining sorcerer’s are being scared to death, and with Raven Claw out of jail the chase begins. On Halloween night, Lord Alex will become the next Dark Sorcerer even if it means destroying everyone who knows of his initiation.
